The Miserable Ones (“Les Misérables” in French) is a Broadway musical based on the more than 1400 pages book of the same name by Victor Hugo. Victor Hugo wrote the book which is considered to be one of the greatest books of the 1800s. A composer from Vannes (France), Claude-Michel Schönberg, adapted Hugo’s tale into a French musical in 1980. It was translated by Herbert Kretzmer into English in 1985 and opened at London’s Barbican Centre in 1985.
